Dennis Strickland

strickland5Dennis Strickland has been racing since the late 70s and retired in 2022 from full time Oval Track Racing

Dennis was born November 1, 1957 in Ypsilanti Michigan and has lived in the state for most of his life. Dennis as a teenager would often be seen with his dad at the local racetracks where he began his love of racing. Soon after high school (1977) Dennis started working/building race cars for Tommy Webb, and they raced at Toledo and Flat Rock Speedways. In 1984 he built his own race car and started driving in the Street Stocks division at Flat Rock and Toledo Speedways. In 1998 he started driving Outlaw Late Models and won rookie of the year that year and went on to win several ARCA LM Championships over the span of almost 40 years.

Dennis and his race team won the Toledo Glass City 200 in 2013, a feat that has not been done by a local driver since Ed Cooper did it in 1977.

In a career that started out in 1977 as a crew member before taking the wheel in 1984 in the street stocks at the Flat Rock and Toledo speedways. In 1995, Strickland moved in to Super Late Models and never looked back.

Over his Late Model career that went from 1995 – 2022 saw Dennis garner 11 ARCA Late Model Championships along with a 2013 win in the prestigious Glass City 200 at the Toledo Speedway adding his name to a long list of winners including Bob Senneker, Terry Senneker Jr., Ed Cooper and other local legends.

Dennis also raced in the ARCA Supercar Series from 2001-2005 as well as competing in the Iceman Series at places like Jennerstown, Columbus, Auto City, Toledo, Berlin, Flat Rock, Sandusky, Midvale, Tri-City, Kalamazoo and others while racing the ARCA Super Series car at Atlanta, Michigan, Kentucky, and tested at Daytona.

Dennis also has been a Ride Along/Driving Instructor for the Rusty Wallace Driving Experience from 2006-2024.

Since retiring from driving, Dennis has been spending time building a Pontiac Trans Am street car on a full racing chassis.

There is no doubt that Dennis Strickland has left his mark on Michigan Outlaw Super Late Model Racing and is another of its greats.
